Step Deflection

The Step Deflection test is performed on both sides of the escalator with a load applied to the step. This test accurately measures the vertical position of the step tread relative to the bottom of the comb fingers. Measurements are made to a resolution of 0.1mm (0.004”), at a rate of 60 per second. This data is used to generate detailed step profile graphs.

This test provides an accurate indication of the following:

  • Cracked Steps
  • Cracked ‘A’ frames
  • Worn (or soft) step and axle rollers
  • Worn (or soft) axle bushings
  • Insufficient step & comb mesh
  • Compliance with Local / National codes and OEM spec’s
Safety is enhanced by:
  • Reducing the potential for combplate entrapments
  • Reducing the potential for falls resulting from the unnecessary activation

  • of the step level device
